Maj Anya DeBear (My Ahn-yuh Duh-Bear) is a textile designer and illustrator based in Los Angeles, California. A native of New York City, she graduated from Bennington College with a BA in Visual Arts in 2007.  After some years working as a mixed media artist, Maja created a silk scarf label, Ursidae. The designs were based on tessellation drawings developed by her father in 1975, and were in effect a cross-generational collaboration. Ursidae, while initially a personal project, became the catalyst for her transition from studio art to textile and surface design. With over a decade of experience creating commercially successful prints for women's ready-to-wear, swim, and home, Maja has collaborated with brands including Revolve, Mara Hoffman, Target, and numerous independent labels, developing collections that balance creativity with the evolving needs of the marketplace.

Grounded in a lifelong engagement with art history, material culture and visual storytelling, she brings a research-driven and highly adaptable approach to design. Rather than adhering to a single signature style, She adapts her approach to meet the needs of evolving trends, diverse markets and individual brand identities. Her background in fine art gives her a broad visual vocabulary, allowing her to move fluidly between aesthetics, techniques and media while remaining attuned to contemporary fashion and consumer trends.

In her personal work, Maja draws on influences ranging from the narrative traditions of folk and decorative arts to pulp fantasy illustration, exploring the speculative and romantic nature of personal and collective histories. and the exotic allure of past, future, and imagined timelines.

Whether developing trend-driven print collections or pursuing independent artistic projects, She approaches her work with rigorous research, deep respect for historical craftsmanship, and a belief that compelling design begins with compelling storytelling. A combination of historical knowledge, creative versatility and an understanding of brands and their audiences allows her to create work that balances conceptual depth with wearability, market relevance and lasting visual appeal.

Maja currently works as an in house designer for Revolve in Los Angeles.
